The Minister of State for Local Government, Mr. Ervin Demo, together with Ms. Albana Koçiu and the prefects of the regions, held a roundtable discussion on the latest amendments to the Law “On the Prefect of the Region”, with a focus on strengthening the role of the state at the local level.
The legal amendments reinforce the role of the Prefect as a representative of the government, expanding responsibilities in inter-institutional coordination, civil emergency management, territorial protection, and the safeguarding of public order.
A significant innovation is the establishment of the position of the Maritime Prefect, aimed at strengthening the protection of the coastline and water resources, as a step toward more effective institutional coordination.
