In the roundtable discussion “From Data to Impact: Strengthening Accountability and Transparency,” organized by Faktoje.al as part of the “Strong Municipalities” program, the Minister of State for Local Governance, Mr. Ervin Demo, took part in a discussion on the importance of transparency, accountability, and the use of data in strengthening local governance. The panel also included Ms. Sabine Piccard from the Swiss Embassy in Albania and Mr. Erik Illes from the Swedish Embassy in Albania.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized that the Municipal Performance Measurement System today represents an important mechanism for objectively assessing the work of each local self-government unit, identifying areas in need of improvement, and strengthening accountability at the local level. This system is also linked to the Performance-Based Grant, encouraging and rewarding municipalities that achieve better results in governance, financial management, and the delivery of services to citizens.
The more open and accessible the data, the stronger institutional transparency becomes, and the greater citizens’ trust in local governance. In this process, AMVV, the media, and civil society remain essential partners in transforming information into accountability and accountability into sustainable development for local communities.
