The Council of Ministers has decided to pave the way for the establishment of the Local Government Academy, as a new structure within the Local Self-Government Support Agency (LSGA). A new and historic initiative for local administration in Albania.

For the first time, the country’s municipalities will have the opportunity to establish a joint institution, whose mission will be to provide continuous and structured training for their administrative staff. This academy will serve as a professional platform for building the capacities and skills of local administration, directly contributing to improving the quality of public services provided to citizens.

To support the functioning of the Academy during its initial phase, the central government will cover 50% of the operational costs for the first three years of its operation. This co-financing will enable a sustainable and immediately impactful start in terms of professional development of local administration.

The establishment of the Local Government Academy represents an important step towards strengthening decentralization and increasing the institutional capacities of municipalities, in order to meet the needs and expectations of Albanian citizens.
